  18. Actually it looks a lot like HDLC interframe fill forced into a UART.

  20. There are the occasional obscure circumstances when modem A thinks it
  21. has connected without error control and modem B thinks it has
  22. established a LAPM link. Yes, this should never happen, but there seem
  23. to be some modems with really broken V.42 implementations.

  25. Forcing the modem to reliable (not auto-reliable!) mode might help. So
  26. might disabling the V.42 detection phase. So might disabling LAPM
  27. altogether.
